New Year, New Goals

2017 was another exciting year for Global Orphan Foundation, full of growth and new adventures. We are building something that will quite literally transform lives for orphaned and vulnerable children in the countries we serve. We work for those children. If we do our job well, we’ll create something that matters as much to them as it does to us, and all of our lives will be better for it. Of course, none of this would be possible without our supporters. We have big goals and big dreams at GOF.

We have an opportunity that is rare. Let’s make the most of it together.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, here are some highlights from 2017:

  • January: Completed construction on the well in DRC bringing clean water to our farming operations and the surrounding community

  • March: Retrofit a 40-foot shipping container, purchased by Farms for Orphans, for the joint FFO / GOF insect farm

  • April: Hosted our fifth ALL IN fundraiser, raising $220,000 for GOF projects.

  • May: Launched the FFO / GOF micro-insect farm in DRC.

  • June - August: Sent two college interns to Nicaragua to provide support to Protection Centers

  • September: Together with Farms for Orphans, we trained the first five orphanages in insect farming, and provided them with startup kits and ongoing mentoring. Those five orphanages collectively serve nearly 1,500 children. -and- Broke ground on our first building in the Children’s Village – a farm center for expanded insect farming and training for orphanage partners.

  • November: Hosted the second GOF Open House, showcasing all of our life-changing programs.

  • DecemberPresented a poster on the GOF / FFO insect farming program at the 3rd International Conference on Global Food Security in Cape Town, South Africa. -and- Hosted our second Camp My Moment in Nicaragua, bringing together 50 girls from five orphanages across the country. -and- Completed construction on our farm training center.

While 2017 was a banner year, we’re not nearly done with our work. 2018 will bring new challenges, new goals, and new successes. We look forward to:

  • expanding our farming operations in DRCongo

  • breaking ground on several new buildings in the Children’s Care Village

  • training more orphanages in insect farming

  • expanding the Camp My Moment program to provide even more girls with the opportunity to learn about gender equality and healthy decision making.

  • Forging new partnerships to better serve our programs

  • Laying the foundation to begin housing orphaned children in our Village.
